Meet some of the Totnes Caring Volunteers

Stella - our longest serving volunteer driver

A big thank you to our longest serving volunteer Stella.

“I love volunteering as I meet some incredible people. It gives me a buzz just to feel I’ve done something to help someone along the way. All the individuals I meet are just so grateful to Totnes Caring, and I feel so lucky to still be able to drive etc. and look after folks less fortunate.” - Stella

Stella joined Totnes Caring in 1991 and has been involved in many different activities. For several years Stella did shopping, organising dress shows, second-hand clothes sales, coffee mornings, she has been a board member and bravely did a sky dive, for a significant birthday!

Stella even went to a Buckingham Palace garden party for volunteers just after Totnes Caring received the Queens Award for Voluntary Service.

Stella has been a volunteer driver for 27 years!

A big thank you to our Chair of Trustees volunteer Peter

“If you ask me what it means to be to be involved I could get quite emotional. It allows me to support our lovely clients. It is lovely to be of service. The older I’ve got the more I realise that being of service is something that nourishes me. We have a wonderful community; I have seen Totnes Caring grow through the volunteers’ offering.” – PeterPeter

Peter moved to Totnes just five years ago having worked as a self-employed consultant, coaching seniors executives. Peter noticed the Totnes Caring minibus and went onto the website and thought, ‘that’s lovely, that is what I want to be involved in’. He started off as a driver and then a befriender. Peter loved the one to one volunteering but felt he would like to work more collectively as a group. Bob invited him to become a trustee and when the position of chair became available Peter says ‘I was the one who didn’t step back’.

A big thank you to our Memory Café volunteer Brian

“I love Totnes Caring. I do my job on the door, have a coffee and I try to sit with everyone and chat with them all. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. It is very important to all the people who come and they enjoy themselves. The atmosphere is absolutely super.” – Brian

Brian is the proudly the oldest member of the Rotary Club, a fellow Rotary member suggested that Brian join Totnes Caring. He spends a lot of time on his own and he very much enjoys going to Lunch Club and Art Group once a week. Last year Brian made a promise to continue his friend’s work and support the Memory Café, we are so happy to have him with us.
